It was great to meet everyone today. Our first reading is "Mirrors" by Lucy Grealy. I am embedding a video of an interview with Lucy Grealy with Charlie Rose that is very interesting. Throughout the semester we will be talking a bit about modalities other than written print (video, sound, visual) and what is gained, or lost, by commmunicating ideas through the different modalities available. In the video she is talking about the book that she wrote, Autobiography of a Face and the article, "Mirrors," that we read. What insight into the reading does this interview provide? Is there anything gained from watching and listening to her tell her story? Anything lost? What is gained or lost from the experience of reading the article in print? Just some questions to toss around - feel free to comment below.
